Homework Nov. 9-13
*BE SURE TO WRITE NAME AND DATE ON EACH PAGE OF HOMEWORK*
**ALL ARTWORK, DRAWING AND WRITING MUST BE COMPLETED INDEPENDENTLY BY THE STUDENTS.**
Monday (Phonics/writing) 1.) In class, we have been learning how to stretch out words to listen for letter sounds. Find 3 things in or around your house that begin with "N". Stretch out each word (i.e. nose would sound like nnnnnnoooooooosssssss). Write the sounds you heard to make the word. Have a parent write the true spelling below your word. 2.) Write your first name 5 times. Make sure that only the first letter is capital and all the rest are lowercase.
Tuesday (Math) - Draw 10 Thanksgiving feathers and color them two different fall colors, such as brown and orange. Next, write the numbers 1-10 inside the leaves. Last, sort them into two groups by drawing circles. Write the number of leaves in each group.
Wednesday (Science/Social Studies) – Think of three animals that live in the desert. Draw a picture of the desert, and draw those three animals in your picture. Label everything in your drawing.
Thursday (Language Arts) - Write five words that begin with the letter Nn. Copy, read and fill in the blanks for the following sentences. Use words that begin with the letter Nn:
The cat had _________ kittens.
______ comes after eight.
The squirrels ate the _______.
Friday - Have a great weekend!

Happy November, everyone! We had so much learning fun last week with our book reports, storybook parade, and harvest party. Thanks for all of you for helping us make it a wonderful and fun day. Now, on to class news.
First off, we want to congratulate those students who turned in their reading charts for October, and they are...Romero, Alyssa, both Austins, and Jasmine.They have earned a trip to the treasure chest and an extra recess. Good job kids!!! Be sure to read to and with your child and mark the chart daily.

We have started new themes in all our subjects. In Math, we are learning ordinal numbers (like first, third, or fifth). We are learning about families in both Language Arts and Social Studies. Our new phonics technique is called "onset and rime", which is just being able to take the beginning sound off of a word (like "mmm...an...man"). We often play a game called Silly Words, where we take the beginning sound off a word, and put a different sound on. Playing with words and word sounds is a precursor for reading and spelling. Ask your child each evening about these themes and more.The calendar for Nov/Dec has been updated. Have a look and take note of upcoming events. You will find the link to the right.
Thank you so much, parents, for providing the snacks for the students. They are so happy to have such a variety of choices every day! Right now, our "pantry" is full, and we don't need anymore food items at this time. However, we do need plastic spoons, paper plates, and juice boxes. We will let you know when our snack supply begins to run low.Did you read to your child today? There's no time like the present!

Tuesday (Math): 1.) Draw five kids standing in line. Color the first kid red. Color the third kid blue. Color the second kid yellow. Color the fourth kid orange. Color the fifth one green. Circle the last kid in line.
Wednesday (Science/Social Studies): We are learning about modern times and long ago. Either bring in photos or draw pictures of your mother when she was a little girl, and now that she is an adult. We will compare and contrast the pictures in class.
Thursday (Language Arts): We have read the book “Goldilocks and the Bears.” Discuss and summarize your favorite part of the story (i.e. “I really liked it when….”) and draw a picture of it. Be sure to use colors and details in your drawing.
Friday (Reading activities): Read lots of books!
**Please do all assignments in your Homework Journal. Make sure to write name and date at the top of each page.
Homework Journals are due on Fridays.**

Tuesday (Math): 1.) Draw a two groups of objects (i.e. 3 circles & 5 squares). Circle the group that has fewer items. Write the numbers below the groups.
Wednesday (Science/Social Studies): 1.) We are learning about animal habitats. Draw or cut out one picture of each type of animal: land animal, water animal, flying animal. 2.) Remember to bring your storybook character costume to school for the parade, along with the School Wide Book Report.
Thursday (Language Arts): Read a book. Talk about the characters and the setting (place). Make a list of all the characters in the story, and draw a picture of the setting.
Friday (Family Project): NO SCHOOL. Have a great weekend!
